Desert Garden Yoga Mix by Dubtrak on Mixcloud

Description:

After 6 months hiatus, Mixes for Yoga returns with a new selection of music. While the last, ‘Oceanside’ mix, explored tranquility of a beach, I’m starting 2013 with a desert theme mix; a place also filled with sand but, instead of the soothing sounds of surf, we explore silence and sensation of open space one can find in a desert. While many tracks in this mix come from netlabel releases and lesser known artists, I also included some rarities by fairly recognizable names like Massive Attack’s remix of Nusrat Fateh Ali Knah “Mustt Mustt”, Liquid Stranger’s early track “Between the bubbles” and Robin Guthrie’s (of Cocteau Twins fame) collaboration with ambient pianist Harold Budd.

Sitar theme yoga mix by Dubtrak on Mixcloud

Description:

In this, fourth, installment of Mixes for Yoga, sitar is in the spotlight.
Classical Indian sounds of sitar by Anoushka Shankar and George Koller start off this mix before any beats are introduced. Well known downtempo tracks by Thievery Corporation and Bombay Dub Orchestra take the mix slowly in more upbeat direction, where number of ethno-trance tracks pick up the pace and energize the flow. Among them, there is an interesting sitar cover of Rolling Stones hit "Paint it Black" by Kaleidoscope Jukebox. Another Anoushka Shankar's track brings back serenity into the mix while closing classic sitar + tanpura raga allows for relaxing Savasana. Enjoy!

Mystic Mountain Yoga Mix by Dubtrak on Mixcloud

Here is a mix that's perfect for longer vinyasa flow sequences. Tracks are longer to allow for slower pace of the flow. As before, you'll ease off into the mix with slower tracks that set the mood. More upbeat tunes will pick up the pace in the middle part with dubby Xizan by ZaZen and Liquid Stranger's Lotus. Desert Dwellers track will bring the mix into its final meditative sequence with the beautiful ambient piece by Enuui.

Behind the Mirage - Hot Yoga Mix by Dubtrak on Mixcloud

Description:

This mix starts off with some mid-tempo middle-eastern beats, progressing gently into a flow of great dub electronica and psytrance tunes in the middle. The last 3rd of the mix eases off into mellower and more melodic climates. Bombay Dub Orchestra, TJ Rehmi, Karsh Kale and Anoushka Shankar tracks bring the mix nicely toward its beat-less and meditative completion. Ambient track by Arcticology allows for perfect closed-eyes motionless cool off period.

Here we go! So, this is the inaugural post with the very first mix called "Easy Groover Yoga Mix". It should pretty much set up a pattern of how these mixes will be done. The dynamic flow may change from mix to mix, depending on the mix's theme but I will usually try to incorporate a healthy dose of both, established artists and lesser known musicians, producers and DJs whose music is posted on sites like SoundCloud.

This mix starts off nice and slow with some chilled out ambient tracks, progressing into more dynamic mid-section with some more upbeat dubby electronica tunes. The last three tracks ease off into more calm and reflective mood, and end with a meditative Indian flute piece.
